Pro Choice Action Committee Call Outs! [Jul. 21st, 2006|07:31 pm]
Pomegranate Radical Health Collective's Livejo

your_own_war
Hey there, gentle readers.

Pomegranate Radical Health Collective is looking for information on adoption and free/sliding scale pre natal care. Chicago-centric information is great, otherwise nation-wide applicable info preferred. This is part of a project of the Pro Choice Action Committee of PRHC, to get on their email list please email prochoice@pomegranatecollective.org

-Adoption Resources, for the birth mother. Emphasis on emotional aspects of adoption is great, and please no anti-abortion rhetoric in disguise!

-Free/Sliding Scale Pre Natal Care. Just like it sounds. Again, please no anti-abortion centers in disguise, we want real medical professionals (anything from midwives and doulas to doctors and nurses)! We do already have a birthing resources guide, however, any additions would also be welcome!

Have You Had An Abortion?

Pomegranate Radical Health Collective is looking for speakers for a forum on abortion rights to be held late 2006 in Chicago, IL. We need you to share your stories of abortion. Any women with experience on any of the following, who would be willing to speak in front of a pro choice audience would be appreciated- please get in contact with us.

-Have you had a clinical abortion? Various trimesters and method stories are wanted!

-Have you had a chemical abortion? Used RU-486 or similar?

-Have you had an herbal abortion or menstrual extraction? Successful and failure stories are wanted. Note: do to the medical controversy of this subject, we will not be discussing *how* to have these “abortions”, simply women’s reactions and experiences with it.

-Have you or family members had illegal, pre Roe V. Wade abortions? Abortions in other countries? Multiple abortions or other unique abortion stories? We’d love to hear from you!

Please get in contact with us if you interested!

Call Out for Personal Submissions on Depression [Jul. 18th, 2006|12:57 am]

Call Out for Personal Submissions on Depression:
The Alternative Health working group of Pomegranate Radical Health Collective is working on making a zine on dealing with depression. The
first in a series of alternative health zines, it will cover depression specifically from an alternative or radical perspective. We are looking to hear people's experiences relating to ways they have survived and dealt with depression. We are interested in whatever people may want to write, but one specific topic we had talked about was a radical perspective on pharmeceuticals, hearing from someone for whom they have been useful, but dealing with the conflicts in choosing what is best for you. Since there's already a lot of material to fit into this zine, we ask that you keep them short, but we understand that it's a tough issue to speak briefly on.
We are also looking to compile a list of [chicago-specific] mental health
resources. Any tips would also be appreciated here. Thanks for your interest. If you want to get more involved with this project, email pomegranatealternativehealth@yahoogroups.com.

Two Upcoming Chicago Pro Choice Events [Jun. 15th, 2006|10:08 pm]
Pomegranate Radical Health Collective's Livejo

your_own_war
The next Pro Choice Action Committee, part of Pomegranate Radical Health Collective, will be on Sunday, July 2nd (1 - 3pm) at Mercury Cafe (1505 W Chicago). We'll discuss screening films, protesting the Pro Life Action League (please see the notice below!!!), countering crisis pregnancy centers, among other things.

----------------------------------------------------------

The Pro Choice Action Committee, part of Pomegranate Radical Health Collective (www.pomegranatecollective.org), will be organizing the protest of the Pro Life Action League's Truth Tour on Tuesday, July 11 on the south side of Chicago.

This is part of their Truth Tour (www.prolifeaction.org/truth/tours.htm) taking place July 8th - July 15th, from 9am - 4:30pm on the far south side (please see the website for location details). Some pro choice, abortion rights, and reproductive justice groups are organizing their members for other days- but, of all the PLAL's Chicago locations, the south side is often the least contested. So, it is especially important that we show them, then and there, that women's reproductive health is NOT negotiable.

If you are willing to come all day, there may be available transportation (possibly snacks available, maybe even a place to stay the night before so everyone can go as a group). Otherwise, feel free to drop in when you have time, we'll provide signs (bring your own if you want).

If you are interested in more information, want to help organize, or just want to let us know you'll be there to lend support, please contact us at prochoice@pomegranatecollectice.org.

Please feel free to cross post this!

Donate environmentally-friendly, healthy menstruation products to women's shelters- free! [Apr. 25th, 2006|04:31 pm]
Pomegranate Radical Health Collective's Livejo

From now until October, Seventh Generation, producer of chlorine-free toilet paper, facial tissue, tampons and more, will give a box of tampons or pads to a women’s shelter every time visitors to www.tampontification.com click the “donate” link.

Says the eco-company, “You and I may take our monthly trips down the feminine care aisle for granted, but, for women in shelters, a box of tampons is five dollars they can’t spare."

Sure, it'd be better if they donated re-usable items, but at least it's something- spread the word!
